Jane, I think this is a really awesome and creative Scratch exploration! I was also really intimidated by the whole coding aspect, and chose to become really comfortable with a few functions and work from there. This, however, seems like you really explored as much as you could, which is so amazing! I think that asking students to create a piece like this would be a perfect introduction to Scratch, especially for somewhat younger students. I think you could phrase it as the creation of a "Scratch Self Portrait" or an "About Me," in which students incorporate things like their favorite colors, animals, their name, a mood, etc. as a way of both expressing themselves and becoming familiar with the program. Well done!
